Changing Things Up

During spring break I decided to go a different direction

Over break, I was thinking about my video and I thought visually it was a bit boring. So I decided to throw away my previous footage and start again. Luckily, I was not far along in the filming process so I was able to restart without problems. Over break, I created a mood board. I was inspired by a lot of images I found on Tumblr. However, my main source of inspiration was a converse ad, it featured a lot of young actors and musicians; it was cool, I liked it, and it made me feel some type of way. My mood board consists of a lot of colorful images; the color mainly coming from sources of light. My mood board contains a lot of photos by Petra Collins; her photos have a very dreamy quality that I wanted to replicate.

I was able to interview Heather and I’m really happy with how it came out. I felt that the conversation was very genuine. I’ve been wanting to interview Heather because her perspective is unique and is one that is not often heard. I never really hear about what it’s like for an Asian American to deal with societal beauty standards and its effects on them.

I am excited to see where this new direction takes you! It is good when people can admit to being bored by something they previously did. It is hard to to do, but I bet it will yield a better finished product.

I really look forward seeing the interviews you conducted. I know sometimes interviews can seem contrived and it may be a bit awkward when talking to someone you know, but it seems that you’ve been really successful with that. I’d love to hear some of your interviewing techniques.
