I’m making a movie.

For my independent project, I will be writing and directing a film, which I will then submit to film festivals. This has been something I’ve always wanted to do, I thought making this my independent would allow me the time I need to go through this process. I think it will be a challenging task but I believe that I can get through it and create something that I’m proud of.

In preparing for this endeavor, I started writing my script during the summer and now I am currently  in the process of editing it with the help of some teachers. I continue to gain inspiration for the visual aspect of the film; I’m going for if Wes Anderson made a coming of age story set in the 80’s with a sprinkle of some La Nouvelle Vague. I’ve been collecting images that I feel fit the vibe or essence that I’m going for. I’ve also been watching many youtube videos explaining the importance of composition, sound, camera angles, and editing (things that make up a film). I’m doing a lot of research on the parts that go into a movie because I want my film to actually feel/look like a film, I don’t want it to look like a class project.

I thought it was important for me to do make a movie because I plan on becoming a director. I think it’s important to have different narratives within film. As a filmmaker, I want to create stories and narratives that are representative of people’s experiences. I don’t see enough films where the lead role looks like myself, I want to change that and I think by creating this movie I’m able to share an experience that is usually not heard.
