After another broken endmill and a lot of time spent at robotics, it’s time to get back to the grind. First step is prepare to make the maiden cuts.
To do this, I cut up ten two inch pieces of metal stock. Not much to say about that so I made a stop-motion gif to compensate.
I will later be through-bolting the individual pieces in place in the fixtures so that they don’t move up and down.
In addition, I swapped out the normal 1/8″ bit, which broke often, for a 3/16″ bit that will cut down on machining time and tool wear.
With a new tool, also comes a new path to cut the part:
Next week I hope to get the process really under way, and maybe even make some initial cuts.
In other news Westtown’s FIRST robotics team number 1391, the Metal Moose, won it’s first regional event ever! It was great to be a big part of the team, and see something that I tirelessly worked on actually have some success. We’ll be heading up to Lehigh University in two weeks to compete in districts. Wish us luck!
